Optic nerve hypoplasia

Description

Optic nerve hypoplasia is characterized by a small optic disc with a reduced number of axons. It can be unilateral or bilateral, and is frequently associated with central nervous system abnormalities (90%) and developmental disorders.

Comments

The presence of a hypoplastic papilla requires ruling out associated neurological disorders.

Indication

32-year-old woman with right optic nerve hypoplasia (VA=CD 1m) and papilla drusen in the left eye (VA=1), without associated neurological abnormalities.
