Bergmeister papilla

Description

Bergmeister papilla is a rare developmental anomaly resulting from the persistence of avascular remnants of the hyaloid system. It is characterized by the presence of whitish glial remnants on the surface of the papilla. It must be differentiated from true papilledema and other forms of pseudopapilledema.

Comments

Bergmeister papilla is a rare cause of pseudopapilledema.

Indication

A 12-year-old girl was diagnosed with a bilateral papillary alteration during a routine check-up, with the initial suspicion of optic nerve drusen. A detailed examination of the fundus and OCT confirmed the diagnosis of Bergmeister papilla.
