Idiopathic macular hole

Color retinography (CLARUS Zeiss): A foveal yellowish spot corresponding to the traction zone can be seen.

OCT (Cirrus-HD, Zeiss) (A): Vitreomacular traction causing loss of foveal depression and the presence of pseudocysts. The traction point is focal. The outer retina is preserved.

Description

In stage Ia macular hole there is vitreofoveal traction, which causes a loss of foveal depression and pseudocysts form in the inner retina. The outer retina remains intact. At this stage the patient is usually asymptomatic.

Indication

A 75-year-old asymptomatic male came for a check-up (history of posterior vitrectomy via pars plana in the right eye for idiopathic macular hole). Visual acuity in the left eye is 1.
