Intraocular Lens Luxation

Wide-field retinography (Clarus 700, Zeiss): Luxation of a three-piece intraocular lens into the vitreous cavity with capsular remnants on the upper haptic.

Description

Intraocular lens (IOL) luxation is an infrequent complication of cataract surgery. It is more common in cases of complex surgeries with loss of capsular support. Vitrectomy with IOL repositioning or replacement is the most commonly used surgical procedure.

Comments

A 78-year-old man with sudden vision loss in the right eye. Operated for cataracts in both eyes, with complex surgery due to pseudoexfoliation, with sulcus implant in the right eye. Despite a miotic pupil, we were able to observe the complete luxation of the IOL into the vitreous cavity.
