Retinal astrocytic hamartoma is a glial, vascularized, and benign tumor, usually asymptomatic. It typically presents as a flat or multinodular whitish lesion, single or multiple, frequently associated with tuberous sclerosis.
Comments
The peculiarity of this case is the presence of a solitary, unilateral, sporadic lesion, not associated with tuberous sclerosis.
Indication
A 24-year-old male was diagnosed during a routine ophthalmologic examination with a whitish multinodular lesion above the papilla in the right eye (type 2 lesion), with positive autofluorescence and marked hyperechogenicity. OCT showed a hyperreflective dome-shaped elevation with a moth-eaten appearance inside and a marked posterior shadow, with significant vascularization of the lesion (OCTA).
