Traumatic choroidal rupture

Description

Choroidal rupture occurs mainly after blunt trauma to the eyeball. It usually appears as a crescent-shaped streak concentric to the optic nerve. The visual prognosis depends on the degree of foveolar involvement, as well as the possible appearance of secondary neovascular membrane.

Comments

Fundus autofluorescence allows clear identification of choroidal ruptures.

Indication

A 28-year-old male with blunt trauma to the left eye presents with loss of visual acuity. The fundus image shows mild vitreous hematic turbidity with macular subretinal hemorrhages and macular choroidal ruptures, more easily identifiable with fundus autofluorescence.
