Visible optic nerve drusen

Description

Optic nerve drusen (OND) are the main cause of pseudopapilledema. In adults, they usually appear as visible or superficial and are easy to identify, and can be confirmed with autofluorescence, ultrasound and OCT. OND usually do not affect vision, but campimetric alterations are common.

Comments

What is atypical in this case is the presence of visual disturbances and a marked concentric reduction to less than 10º (legal blindness).

Indication

A 68-year-old woman with decreased visual acuity, with raised papillae with poorly defined edges and a globular appearance, showing positive background autofluorescence with a marked concentric reduction of the visual field, with a bilateral alteration of the retinal nerve fiber layer.
