Vitreomacular adhesion

Color retinography (CLARUS 500, Zeiss): There are no alterations of interest.

OCT (Cirrus-HD 6000, Zeiss) (A): Posterior vitreous detachment. Note the posterior hyaloid firmly attached at foveal level without causing significant traction or altering the profile.

Description

Vitreomacular adhesion. In vitreomacular adhesion the posterior hyaloid is attached to the macula although it usually does not cause visual symptoms. It may be focal (≤1500 μm) or diffuse (> 1500 μm). When it causes tomographic alterations such as foveal distortion, cystoid macular edema or foveal detachment, we refer to vitreomacular traction (VMT). These changes are associated with metamorphopsia and decreased vision, which does not occur in adhesion.
