Peripheral exudative hemorrhagic chorioretinopathy (PEHC)

Description

HPEC is a rare clinical entity usually associated with AMD, characterized by peripheral RPE detachments (PEDs), with exudation, hemorrhages and fibrosis. This entity can be confused with intraocular tumors or retinal detachments.

Antiangiogenic therapy is effective in most patients in the active phase (exudative/hemorrhagic).

Comments

Wide-field retinography helps us to discover this entity that may go unnoticed in a posterior pole examination.

Indication

A 91-year-old woman was diagnosed with atrophic AMD, pseudophakic AO, with visual acuity OD 0.6 OI 0.4. Wide-field retinography showed peripheral rounded lesions with exudation and hemorrhages. The multimodal study confirmed the diagnosis of CEHP.
